CNHI is one of the four institutes of CRS. It is composed by two departments, each of them being approximately of the same size, up to 4-5 researchers.

This two departments go along different scientific profiles and objectives.

BD deals with research in the fields of historical, economic and urban geography, concerning the whole country and in particular Budapest and the Central Region of Hungary. Applied research activities concentrate on the urban development of Budapest.

DRDR treats problems of spatial and social inequalities, social discrepancies, migration, local societies and identities in declining rural areas and small villages. Composing development strategies for micro-regions in Pest County remains another basic element of the department’s activities.
